Scarab Etrusca hoop earrings - 18ct gold and silver

Elegant simplicity with an ancient appeal.

These gorgeous 18ct gold earrings with silver scarab detail have been created to reflect the rustic beauty of ancient jewellery. In Ancient Egypt the scarab beetle was considered a symbol of transformation, rebirth and regeneration. It was also seen as a symbol of protection. The scarab was linked to Khepri (God of the Rising sun). The  ancients believed that the dung beetle was only male sexed and could self create. The supposed self creation of the scarab beetle resembles that of Khepri, who the Ancient Egyptians believed created himself out of nothing. The dung ball rolled by a scarab beetle resembles the sun. It was believed that Khepri renewed the sun every day before rolling it above the horizon, then he carried it through the other world after sunset, only to review it again the next day.

Tonya Gilbett Fine Jewellery is inspired by many things; ancient and antique jewellery, the beauty of nature, and the modern woman. Symbolism was important in the creation of many Ancient jewels and much research has been devoted to this topic. These scarab hoop earrings takes some inspiration from minimalist design however with a deeper symbolic meaning of remembering the past as part of the present.

Elegant simplicity at its best, a feature of all Tonya Gilbett Fine Jewellery designs.
